Here in Chongqing a TAXI is referred to as a Da di and I always thought the real name was the unpronouncable Chu1zu1qi4che1
============================
Da di or Da che1 (call a taxi) is used all over the country. 打“da” literaly means "to beat sth", but actually, the word "Da" can be used in many other situations, any movement linked with "up and down", "in and out" can be described with DA.
For example, Da3 dian4 hua4(make a phone call), you pick up the phone and dial/press a number.
Da di/che, you raise your hand to stop a taxi.
Da qiu2(play balls), Da ban2(dress up or make up), Da du2(bet), Da dunr2(take a nap), Da guan1 si1(go to court to sue or be sued by sb), Da zi4(type), and this Da pao4 [young gilrs don't see] (to have sex with your girl)

Ni Hao!

My Husband and I are travelling to China in January 2009, before we go, we have been trying to learn the basics.

I don't eat seafood of any kind and when we went to Singapore I asked the waiter for no seafood, he said he understood and came back with my dish and it was covered in crab and shrimp/prawns.. I said "no seafood, what is this?" (pointing to the crab) he says "this no seafood, this crab".......Luckily my husband was happy to pick it out.

Can someone please tell me the sentence translation for:

"I do not eat seafood, please no fish, no crab or anything from the sea"

Can you also please give me the same translation in chinese characters so that I can write it down incase they don't understand my chinese?

Thanks in advance!

Midget
