Greetings TCG members,

I am greatly interested in the Yungang Buddhist caves (you check out an article I wrote at http://www.chinahistoryforum.com/index.php?showtopic=15404&st=0 complete with images) and want to make a trip from Beijing to Datong to stay for a few days.

I have several questions:

1. Is it better to take a bus or a train from Beijing to Datong?

2. Is the bus going to Yungang easy to find in Datong? Is it near the train station?

3. What is a good place to stay while in Yungang? I am looking for a culturally interesting place and don't care for any Western amenities.

Cheers and I look forward to any responses,

Publius

Simply because my wife's home village is right next to the highway and railway that would most likely take you from Beijing to Datong, I'd say take the train.
