GUEST11852 I have a work here in Shanghai with indifinite period of years. I applied for a working Z visa in the philippines but they gave me only a visa valid for 30 days. Do I have to return to the philippines to apply for a working visa? How can I get a working visa with an indifinite stay in Shanghai?

Cat - You should have no problem applying in Japan after the paraolympics have finished.

Guest 11852. The company who are employing you need to help you with the visa. All Z visa's are for 30 days, until your company extends it. This can be for anywhere between a few weeks to a few years. It is not something you can do by yourself, and you only have 30 days to do it.

Actually the Z visa always EXPIRES after 30 days. The employer MUST apply for a residency permit (really another visa) with the 30 days or face a penalty. ONLY the employer can do this. It is normally for the duration of the contract or a little longer. (I thought there was a 1 yr limit but could be wrong on that)

GUEST78105 My husband and I are UK nationals and will be leaving on a world tour at the end of November 2008. We are in the process of booking a tour in China from 23rd April- 9thMay 2009. We understand we will be unable to get a visa for china prior to our departure. Is it possible to get a visa in Sydney ( when we are staying there in 14th - 18th February 2009) and if so how quickly can it be processed?

You should have no trouble getting a visa in Sydney. Normal processing is 4 days but for higher fees you can get it in 24 hours or less. You can go to the consul in Camperdown I( think) but I normally use a Chinese travel agency in George St roughly opposite the YHA hostel near Central Station. The fee is quite small. You cannot mail it to the consulate yourself.

GUEST20990 you get a 30 day visa then enter china and your empoler has 30 days to apply for a resdence visa for you which lasts 12 months. you renew z visa in china after 12 months with a letter from your employer stating you have honoured your contract and continue to work for them. Have you got permits fron govt and invite letter?
