GUEST38151 How to go back from the mountain site to Shanghai?

- is there a direct bus running from Tangkou to Shanghai - when/where does it depart - how to arrange prebooking

- or do I have to go to Tunxi first and hop on an airplane

Looking forward for your advice ....

"Best" is subjective.
There're direct buses for Tangkou -- Shanghai but I believe they stop running rather early.
The latest bus for Tunxi -- Shanghai is at 1550. The overnight train for Tunxi -- Shanghai departs in the early evening.
Otherwise, flights for Tunxi -- Shanghai typically depart at night.

Better possibility? You want to travel in a cheaper way?

You may take train or bus from Shanghai to Huangshan.

Train:
K782/K783 depart time: 12:31 Arrival:00:27
K8418/K8419 depart time:17:45 Arrival:06:55

The second is more appropriate. After getting there, you can take bus directly to Huangshan Scenic Aarea.

Bus:
Huangshan Tunxi 06:38 471 Km 6.5 Hours 140/135 Yuan
Huangshan Tunxi 07:58 471 Km 6.5 Hours 140/135 Yuan
Huangshan Tunxi 10:12 471 Km 6.5 Hours 140/135 Yuan
Huangshan Tunxi 14:15 471 Km 6.5 Hours 140/135 Yuan

The buses leave from Shanghai South Long-distance Bus Station and arrive at Tunxi General Bus Station/Mt. Huangshan Scenic Area Tour Center.

PS: Shanghai South Long-distance Bus Station is near Shanghai South Railway Station.
Address: No.666, Shilong Road(石龙路).

How to go the bus station?
Take [tcgurl=http://www.travelchinaguide.com/cityguides/shanghai/transportation/subway-line1.htm]subway line 1[/tcgurl]and get off at Shanghai South Railway Station, get out at Exit 2.

GUEST12195 Hi there,

I would like to ask your help regarding to the following logistic questions:
1. I would like to leave Shanghai and arrive to Yungu Hotel (at the foot of the mountain) on 17 Aug. Do you know when buses leave from Shanghai or any webside where I can check the timetable? (Btw is the bus going through Hangzhuo on the highway?)
2. Am I right that Yungu is inside the national park, so the next morning I can take right away the cable car up to the mountain, and I do not have to go back to the Main entrance?
3. The hotel is offering me a private car service from Tunxi to Tangkou and back to Tunxi for RMB 480. Is it a reasonable price? What would it cost by local bus or by taxi (the round trip of course)? When does the last bus start to Tunxi from Tangkou, since I have to be at the train station of Tunxi before 22:00.

1.
Departure time of long-distance buses from Shanghai to Tunxi:
Shanghai South Coach Station: 0740, 1515, and 0940;
Shanghai Long-Distance General Bus Station: 1430
Hutai Road Long-Distance Bus Station: 0525
Shanghai coach station in the north: 1530
Departure time of long-distance buses from Shanghai to Huangshan:
Shanghai Long-Distance General Bus Station: two buses at 1840 and one at 1843
Hutai Road Long-Distance Bus Station: 0530

2.
Yes, Yugu is very close to both the cablecar station and the entrance of the mountain. No worry about it.

3.
The one-way trip from Tunxi to Tangkou is about RMB150 if rent a car. The bus from Tunxi to Tangkou is operating between 0600 and 1730, ticket rmb13 for one person and one-way trip.
Last bus from Tangkou to Tunxi leaves at around 1730.

Two ways:
By train: more than 10 hours.
By bus: around 6 hours. Go to Tunxi Bus Station (屯溪汽车站) to take the bus.

GUESTJEROME Hi group

I need some help. I would like to go to huangshan mountain from shanghai for a weekend trip. However I can't depart shanghai until after 17:00 on friday. Is there any way to get from shanghai to tangkou (or otherwise tunxi) after this time. I looked at flights and trains and both seem to leave earlier in the day. There was one post on another forum that suggested there was a bus from shanghai south bus station at around 17:00, but this was an older post so I don't know if it exists.

Can anybody help with information or advice.
Thanks
