Yes, ppl used to bite gold to test if it was genuine and not mixed with lead, which although heavy is soft and you can leave teeth marks. |

They wanna know how gold medal taste. They ate enormous bitterness before receiving gold medals.
It is possible that they just poise for photography. |

People used to bite test gold and silver coins etc. to test for authenticity. The precious metals in their pure forms are very soft, softer than tooth enamel and thus would sustain teeth marks. Today its just a custom as the medals are mostly made from silver anyways. Like kissing it, its just something they do for the cameras, not because they actually believe its a cheap alloy. |
