Is J-14 superior to F22?
Sep 28, 2008 03:44
guestbomber I tried to collect information about Chinese J-14 fighter plane. I googled it but I can’t access all the pages. Do u guys here know about J-14? It was reported that the development of J-14 was to compete with American F-22. Which is more powerful and advanced?

GUEST27113 Eh, there is no J-13 and J-14 flying yet. Both are Chinese stealth fighter projects from SAC and CAC which has undergone various wind tunnel models, designs and develping its avionic and powerplant suits. So far we only had seen early sketches and some unkown advanced Chinese cockpits during on Zuhai air show 2006.
Even when these two Chinese stealth fighters are completed, we still don't know about the performances and capabilities of those jets.
So a comparisson between the J-13/14 with the F-22A Raptor is not possible.
We can only assume that the F-22A Raptor is more advanced since the USA has many years of developing hi-tech fighter jets and it should be clear that no other jet will be that expensive than the F-22A Raptor. Nevertheless, when the J-13/14 is stealthy enough to cause only a small radar-reflection and having good avionics to provide maximal supervision and BVR capabilities, it is definetly a worthy 5th gen fighter jet then.

GUEST32210 Well i searched on wikipedia in "PLAAF" and scrolled down to jet inventory and it says J-10B is already a 5th gen fighter that made it's first flight on 26 December 2008 so judging by the J-14s aveonics and radar system with power boost thrust i would say it could definately compete with the USA F-22 Raptor

GUEST92718 "J-10B is already a 5th gen fighter"

4.5th generation at MOST. Even that is being generous.

GUEST55230 The power plant is important. F-22 has 2 latest GE engines with 35000 lb of thrust force each, equaling 70000 lb in total. What will the Chinese use? Even if they import from Russia, Russia won't sell engines with anything higher than say 20000 lb of thrust force. Otherwise the thrust to weight ratio will be smaller.

GUESTA CHINE... J-15 features folding wings, a pair of small canard foreplanes to improve its low speed handling and shortened tailcone to avoid tail-scrape during high AoA landing. Some key shipborne aircraft technologies such as landing/navigational systems are believed to have been obtained from Russia and Ukraine. One Su-33 prototype (T-10K-3) was acquired from Ukraine around 2001 and has been studied extensively. J-15 is believed to share many common components with J-11B, such as a similar radar, the same glass cockpit as well as the improved WS-10 turbofan engine. It can also fire a variety of Chinese designed weapons, including PL-8, PL-12 AAMs and YJ-83K AShM. Overall J-15 is believed to be in the same class of American F/A-18C. The first prototype has been undergoing assembly at SAC since 2008. J-15 is expected first to be stationed onboard the Varyag aircraft carrier currently being fitted in Dalian. The latest news suggested that the first prototype made its maiden flight on August 31, 2009, powered initially by Russian AL-31F turbofan engines
