GUEST12967 Normally there are four steps to get work visa,you know the work visa is the most complicated,but if we understand the steps,we will see it's not so difficult.

Step-1) Apply for "working license ;¥400(Service fee);

---it will take 11 working days (需要11个工作日);

Step-2) Apply for Z visa, 2 options:

Option-A. Get a work invitation letter (¥600), and go abroad, such as HK or your homeland, to apply for an "one month" Z-visa , then come back to china again.
---the "work invitation letter" will take 5 working days, means 1 week;

Option-B. If you don't want to leave the Mainland, then we could convert L/F visa to Z visa in the Mainland:

Step-3)“work permit:¥400(Service fee);
---it will take 5 working days, means 1 week;

Step-4)“Residence Permit)”:¥400(Service fee)+400 (Government fee);
---It means extend your Work Visa or Residence Permit which is been done in Step 2 to a "12-month valid Residence Permit";---it will take 5 working days;

I m Massy from iran that come to china, Qingdao for study and doing some project, unfortunately i didnt know about my visa and my visa was expired, now i get a new visa after paying the fine for one month. In fact, I wanted take a visa for 6 months, but police station told me only i can take visa for one month and every month I should extend my visa, this can be so terrible for me. and the most important things that said to me is if I want to go to my country, I cant come back here within 5 years. I was really surprised. I want to know about these rules, can i do somethings or your agency can help me for getting a visa for at least 3 months? and in fact i should to my country for finishing my study in threre after some months, after that i would like come back here for continuing my job and study here at Sep maybe. But by these rules maybe it will be impossible for me, could you please let me know about the rules of expired visa and what can I do for solving this problem.
I would be so appereciate if you help me and answer my question.
Sincerely yours,
Massy

Actually, rules for overstay differ from place to place in China, and it may differ from different nations.
If you have overstayed your visa and would like to remain in the country make an application, as soon as possible and apologise for your error. If you are leaving China anyway, you can just front up at the airport or border and be dealt with there. In either case, you will probably have to pay a fine of 500 RMB a day up to a maximum of 5000 RMB though you are not necessarily denied a new visa or have further action taken. However, you could be expelled from the country and prohibited re-entry for 5 years.
As you were told by police station you have to extend your visa every month.
