hi im uk citizen traveling asia in thailand soon for about 20 days before moving on.i want to goto china for about 20 days,what is the best way to get a visa .thanks

You can apply China tourist visa in Thailand, from China embassy in Bangkok. It is easy for Uk citizens to get a tourist visa to China.

when submitting the visa, do I have to show return tickets or not?

The best way I can think of if you want to get a visa in order to travel to China is by visiting a Chinese embassy for assistance.
