Is it possible to convert an L visa to a six-months F visa without leaving China?

Hello,
I'm a Colombian-passport holder, currently living in Beijing and my L visa is expiring in 2 months. I wish to stay longer in China because I was offered an internship at the UN and, i would like to get a 6-months F Visa with multiple entries.
I have an invitation letter from the United Nations certifying that they want to have me in their office as 'support', but they say they cannot help me with a working visa since they are not formally a Chinese company.
Does anybody know if I can do this directly myself through the local PSB? I can't really afford trying to leave the country and doing it in HK.
If anybody has done it already, how straightforward was it?
It is definitely impossible to do it without leaving China, has anybody done this conversion recently in HK?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Sebastian

GUESTJUANR,
According to what I heard, it's impossible to change visa types without leaving China. You need to exit mainland China and apply for your new F type. But you may go to Beijing Entry and Exit Management Bureau to ask about the details. On their website, it says that foreigners can apply for another type without leaving.

My daughters visa for Shanghai runs out tomorrow, she has now gone to Hong Kong to get a further tourist visa to return to Shanghai. She tried there but they would not extend it. Is this normal and will she get another one in Hong Kong?
