Xinhua News Agency reported that about 200 workers of a smelting factory barred a highway for about two hours in Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province in Southern China for labor contract dispute early Monday morning.

The workers of the Shaoguan Smelting Factory gathered at the factory’s gate around 8:30 am to protest that the factory refused to continue to sign the labor contracts. Their contracts will terminate at the end of this year.

Most of the worked have been working in the factory for more than ten years. They are afraid that their employers would harm their interests by not signing the contracts in the same way as the current ones. Their employers had planned to do that way because of the global financial turmoil.

The crowd blocked national highway 106 and halted traffic. The crowd dispersed after their employers agreed to sign contracts in the way as the current ones.
