China has begun Sunday relocating the first batch of rurual residents totaling 10,600 in Central Henan Province to make way for the Danjiangkou Reserviour, one of the important routes of the massive South-to-North Water Diversion Project. Over 320,000 people in Henan and Hubei Provinces will have to relocate for the project. The South-to-North Water Diversion Project consists of three routes: namely the eastern, middle and western routes. It will mainly divert water from China’s water rich southern part ( mainly from the Yangtze River ) to the dry north.
