My mistake. I looked it up with Baidu search engine. It comes up with right results (The American Civil War breaks in 1861). When I translated it into English, I typed the wrong numbers. Thus, it turns into 1864.

Wan, do you know how Edison becomes a deaf? The info I got was written in Chinese. I don't know if it is true.

You know more than I am. Too many unverified stories about how Thomas Alva Edison became deaf. When I was in primary school I learnt that he became deaf due to scarlet fever that occurred twice.

I tried to search some English materials. There are different claims. Except for the scarlet fever explanation, another saying claims that he has had hearing problem when he was a child.
