Visa timeline when encountering a problem

guest15581	I was requesting a tourist visa to China, and used a courier agency. The agency warned me I might have an issue b/c the consulate requires your previous visas to china if you've had them before. I unfortunately lost my previous passport and did not have a copy of my old visa to China. I did submitt my previous chinese canceled passport as well as a letter stating the reason I did not have my previous visa. The courier called me today to inform me that they are holding on to my application and US passport to verify my previous stays in China with the Chinese side. With an indefinitely return date....meaning I won't know when I will receive it. I am due to fly in a week to China and am freaking out about this. Anyone else have any experience like this? Any idea how long it might take for them to get the information back from China?
