Beware of this Chinese Herb / Medicine Shop in Hong Kong | Hong Kong | Jul 12, 2010 11:32
I was in HK with my family just last week and it was an enraged as well as disappointed trip for my family.

We went into this Chinese medicine shop (my dad wanted to buy some dried scallop, will give the shop name and location below) and the shop assistants started to introduce ginseng and another chinese herb(looks like "curly macaroni"). The shop assistant was well-awared that my dad was not very well-versed with chinese and told him that ginseng and this other chinese herb was selling at discount. He mentioned the price per weight and thinking that the price is reasonable (HK$480 and HK$300 respectively), my dad did not object and the shop assistant quickly weigh the herbs and you can see that the other shop assistants were very fast in assisting this guy to grind to powder form or cut into smaller pieces. When the total bills comes, it come to HK$31000+ (versus HK$480 + HK$300).
The shop assistant then itemised and calculated the items for us and it CHANGES!! the weight units and therefore when multiple to the cost per weigh into this enormous amt. We argued and 1 after another shop assistants keeps taking turns to get us to pay saying it is grind to powder, can't sell, etc.
In short, we pay HK$8000 for less than 1/3 of the items.
Lesson learned:-
1) Ask the shop for the exact price for the items before any thing!
2) Stop them from grinding or cutting until you get the price right
written down!
3) Look out for the receipt. (This ship does not have the name,
registration number of the company).

The shop name is TAK HING (Group) Medicine Company. It is along 334 Nathan Road, Kowloon. Quite near to Nathan and Easton Hotel.

I am writing this hoping to warn other tourists about this particular shop and hopefully no one fall into their prey again.
I just hope no tourist ever need to experience what my family went thru...!
