Reasonable Hotel in Shanghai
LEMONCACTUS | Shanghai | 10/27/2006 9:56:14 PM

I recently stayed in Jinjiang Inn Shanghai by the Bund, Shanghai, China.
Their address: 33 Fujian Rd(s), The Bund, Shanghai

Really well located in the Bund only 15 mins walk from the river and from Yuyuan Gardens area.

The staff are friendly, speak good English and can help with directions and information.

We paid 120RMB each for a twin room. It is large, clean and very comfortable. Excellent ensuite. I wouldn't usually pay this much, but I recommend it if there are 2 of you.

I have nothing bad to say about them! A great stay.

You can find them and book online here: http://reservations.bookhostels.com/cheap-hostels-in.com/hosteldetails.php/HostelNumber.17463/PHPSESSID.m5rdj21ncqueb9apbi3kifgac8yrri74?PHPSESSID=m5rdj21ncqueb9apbi3kifgac8yrri74

Budget Accommodation
LEMONCACTUS | Jilin | 1/30/2006 7:49:21 AM

Jilin City isn't glamorous or on the tourist trail, so places to stay are limited.

I stayed at Tian Shi Bin Guan (Angel Hotel). It is in an excellent location for viewing the Wu Song, being just 2 minutes walk from the Song Hua Jiang (Song Hua River) and the Catholic Church.

A twin room cost me 120RMB. Breakfast was included, nothing fancy but good enough. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

I did return back at around midnight one evening and the doors were locked. Fortunately a security guard was awake and unlocked them ;)

Not sure how good their English is though!

Address: 2 Nanjing Jie, Jilin City

Good, cheap hostel in Chengdu
LEMONCACTUS | Chengdu | 12/13/2005 7:01:47 AM

You can do a lot worse the Soma Hostel, Chengdu.

Rooms are spacious & clean, staff are friendly and helpful, make onward bookings etc.

Nice cafe/bar at the top and a roof garden where you can sit out and watch the city lights.

Good location for the long distance bus station too. Great cake shop nearby and choice of Western & Chinese restaurants.

Seems a bit dodgy at first, as you have to go down an alley and use a really old lift. It's OK, it's a great find.

Here's the address:
6 Floor No. 81 NanDaJie, South Street, Chengdu

Have fun.

Great Hostel in a Beijing Hutong
LEMONCACTUS | Beijing | 12/11/2005 4:13:56 AM

I’d like to recommend Peking Downtown Backpackers. I stayed there in May 2005 and it is cheap, clean and friendly. It is situated in a beautiful, quiet Hutong a little way from the city centre but nothing a short bus ride won’t fix. The staff speak reasonable English and there’s breakfast thrown in for the price too. (I can recommend the Chinese breakfast, the dumplings are great!) They do excellent Great Wall Trips for a good price. 24hour hot water. They can say it a lot better than I can (they have loads going on!), so check out their website at http://greatwalladventure.com/Beijing-hostel.htm
Also of note lining the Hutong are tiny cafes, restaurants and the fabulous Passby Bar is 5 minutes walk away. Also the hostel is very close to the Bell and Drum Towers.

Definitely worth a look.

Enjoy!
