Diaolou Cluster at Majianglong, Kaiping (開平馬降龍碉樓)

Majianglong is a cluster of 5 villages. In early 20th century, villagers started to emigrate to US, Canada, Australia and Mexico and brought wealth back to their relatives in Kaiping. Castle like houses and watchtowers had to be built to guard their wealth and living from robbers and thus the Diaolou" were built. These very concrete structured houses are also used to endure the heavy flood of the valley, at Kaiping.
