Most cottages have only one storey and are quietyly situated in villages. The homeowners live next door and are on hand to deal with any query ou may have during your stay.
The picturesque farmhouses are light, airy, spacious and perfect bases from which to explore beijing's attractions:badaling great wall, simatai great wall, jinshanling great all and mutianyu great wall. By ALLANH | 9/11/2008 7:03:23 AM
The Tian Rui Hotel is about a 3star hotel in South Australia. It is adequate for the tourist. Cleaning is OK, Meals are mostly chinese orientated. The Hotel is within walking distance to all tourists. Wangfujing St, Tianemen Square, Silk Road and lots of other places. This Hotel has to be one of the best locations to stay at.

About Accommodation in Beijing
By FLANKER | 2/7/2006 6:09:36 AM
Accommodation in Beijing may be tough for you if you want to save money and stay comfortable. One tip is that you may try hotels in universities. You can always get a cheap room, which is also clean and tidy. It costs like $5-20 per room per day. And if you are lucky, you can get a college student as your tour guide, which makes your travel more convenient and eliminates unnecessary troubles. For further information, you can email flanker1118@yahoo.com.cn. May your stay in Beijing happy and comfortable.

Great Hostel in a Beijing Hutong
By LEMONCACTUS | 12/11/2005 4:13:56 AM
I’d like to recommend Peking Downtown Backpackers. I stayed there in May 2005 and it is cheap, clean and friendly. It is situated in a beautiful, quiet Hutong a little way from the city centre but nothing a short bus ride won’t fix. The staff speak reasonable English and there’s breakfast thrown in for the price too. (I can recommend the Chinese breakfast, the dumplings are great!) They do excellent Great Wall Trips for a good price. 24hour hot water. They can say it a lot better than I can (they have loads going on!), so check out their website at http://greatwalladventure.com/Beijing-hostel.htm Also of note lining the Hutong are tiny cafes, restaurants and the fabulous Passby Bar is 5 minutes walk away. Also the hostel is very close to the Bell and Drum Towers.
Definitely worth a look.
Enjoy!

Cheap places in Beijing
By ELCABRON | 10/24/2005 8:07:38 AM
If you have a backpacker soul, these tips are helpful:
I recommend the BEIJING FAR EAST YH. TIESHUXIEJIE No. 90. Phone: 63018811-3118 or 3119 They charged 45 Kuai in a 3-bed-room. They offer a complete kitchen, washing machine, drier and western style showers and toilets. But the best thing is the location. Outside there is a market street full of streetkitchens, restaurants, supermarkets...only 5 minutes walk from TianAnMen and the ForbiddenCity!
On our difficult way to find a nice place we passed: 1. BEIJING YH, JianGuoMenNeiDaJie No.9 close to Beijing Railwaystation which was said to be brand new...in fact they were still building it in 2003 2. SAGA YH in some bad alleys 700m behind the Beijing YH, with 60 Kuai in a shabby 4-bed-room too expensive for the run down state. 3. ORIENTAL YH, Dondang-third-lane at Donfang Plaza No.8 - good location close to the TianAnMen and fair prices....but booked out! Ah, keep on walking;-) 4. Another place in the middle of nowhere: DIAO YUAN HOSTEL, somewhere next to the channel on YouAnMenDongBinheLu No.135...which is closer to the Temple of Heaven BUT they have the best guy for organizing trips to the Great Wall! It is Mr. John: TieShuXieJie No. 66, XuanWu District. Phone: 83151553, 13901123938, 138012211089 or 13611326769. Email jian_min@hotmail.com His place is called ManGuoXiangHuoGuoDian. A great trip to Simatai for two persons (60 kuai each) for a driver (Mr. John himself) in a jeep. to Simatai it is a 3h drive each way.

Hotel near Drum Tower
By JAKIVO | 9/24/2005 11:48:23 AM
The Qomolangma Hotel is inexpensive (rates range from $40 - $ /night). It is less than a 10 minute walk to the Drum Tower and a 15 minute walk to a shopping center (groceries!) and Lotus Lane. (For you Americans that need your coffee and fast food: there is a Starbucks by the lake and a McDonald's by the Drum Tower. But try not to give in! Try sticking to steamy bread and flower tea!) :-)
The hotel is clean and staff are very friendly. Broadband internet works well here. If you want to feel like you live in a non-English speaking area, this is the place. It's great. www.qomolangmahotel.com.
I also stayed for one night in the Beijing Grande Hotel - very nice as well and 10 minutes from the Forbidden City.
Have seen where The Backpackers hotel is - very cool. In an alley/sidestreet but caters to foreign travelers. No problems going into restaurants if you don't know Chinese.
Cheers!

Hotels around Tiananmen Square
By INTIANJIN | 8/5/2004 5:45:31 AM
Two Beijing hostels I found online ended being hotels. The price is generally 180RMB/night and up for rooms.
Around Tiananmen Square there are lots of hotels. They start as low as 110RMB and go up. On Da Zha Lan Street and adjoining streets are lots of hotels. The one I stayed in was HengYe Hotel (180RMB/night for 3rd floor. I got 180RMB for 2nd floor by haggling) and I'll stay there again if I go back to Beijing. The phone number is 010-63179178 or 010-63179132. Its location is great because its on Da Zha Lan Street. Tiananmen Square is walking distance and the hotel is surrounded by markets and in an old style area.
When you are getting a hotel ensure you check the locks on the door. If you can credit card the lock then don't stay there. Also check the windows. I was advised by a Tianjin man to not stay in the same hotel two nights in a row. I stayed in HengYe Hotel for 7 nights and it was very secure and clean. They had many employees working each night and had someone on each floor at a desk.
Choose hotels where the locks require a key card. If the hotel only has 1 person working then its not going to be secure.
Many smaller hotels aren't star rated but will accept you. China has a law that states foreigners can't stay in less than 3 star hotels. I believe the law will be abolished. It is for foreigner's protection though.
And it doesn't matter where you stay; its always good to lock your valuables in your bag when you leave them in your room.
