Silk Road
By ALLANH | 9/13/2008 8:20:39 AM
I'm not a shopper, but I loved the silk road, virtually all a tourist would want. The shopkeepers are very pushy to sell you anything. Don't fall for this. I bought some brand name gear. If I went back to Beijing, my time would now be spent shopping, with some time visiting places our tour didn't show us. Wangfujing St is very good as with some of the side streets for a tourist to do some shopping.

Don't pass up a god buy
By YINDUFFY | 8/17/2008 5:42:48 PM
Last Summer My family spent five weeks in China with the first 2 1/2 days in Beijing. On the first day we visited the Forbidden City with another couple. It was our second visit, the first in 2000, but our friends first. At a gift shop near the back entrance to the Forbidden city I saw a wonderful souvenir at a good price. I passed it up since we had so many more days ahead and there would be many more opportunities for souvenir buying. Besides who could ask for a better tourist trap than the Forbidden City? I never saw that item again and I regret not buying it for the small sum of about $12.00. Sometimes the opportunity appears and you must be ready. I wasn't and I still think back on that.

I am shopping in SilkStreet, can you believe it?
By MELODYNYELLOW | 7/24/2006 1:15:12 PM
I went shopping in SilkStreet with my friend Pauline today. I remember I wrote a tip last last week about Never Ever shopping in SilkStreet. Yes I did.
I remembered, but I did go there. SilkeStreet has a lot of things that you can not find in other places in Beijing. Like fake Famous brand jeans, Cheap clothes, Convenient exchangeable treads, really "luxury necklace and earrings" and so on. My friend was looking for a pair of jeans, a pair of Victoria Beckham jeans. And she found them there!! Of course they're not real but they're really cheap!!
Ok, here comes the tip of shopping in SilkStreet: The sale girl asked for 390RMB for that pair of jeans. Everybody knows they are fake but nobody should say it out. Why? I don't know. But whatever don't say it out, coz' nobody wanna make nobody angry. And then you gotta bargin. "Bargin", You really should remember this word in China. It works at almost every place here and helps you a lot. I drove a really hard bargin for my friend today. Remember to bargin harder and try to find some bad things about the things you are going to buy. remember do not behave like you really like it although you really like it.Just behave like it is not the type of thing that you are looking for and it is very bad, something like that.Remember how much did the sale girl asked us for the jeans? Yes, 390RMB. And how much do you think I gave her finally? haha, 70RMB. It's a lot cheaper!! They didn't cost me a lot right? They are fake brand, but they are worth to buy.

Is that a DVD?
By MELODYNYELLOW | 7/15/2006 6:48:42 AM
DVDs in China are very cheap. You don't need to think about the Law things or Copyright things about those DVDs, god knows why they are so cheap?!
If you like watching movies, it's the time for you to do a DVD collection in Beijing. The price for each movie is usually 5-20 RMB, about 1-2.5 USD. You can buy 20 movies like that you bought in America by spending the same money!!!

So called silkstreet
By MELODYNYELLOW | 7/15/2006 6:21:08 AM
I saw that many foreigners shopping in Silk street. If I were you, I would never do that. There are many good places for shopping in Beijing which are a lot better and cheaper than Silk street.
There are many stores in Silk stree selling cheap clothes and traditional things. You may feel excited when you come here at the first moment, but after then you should calm down and clear your eyes when shopping here. Most of the clothes especially silken clothes are not real. Other things like little gifts or crafts are almost bad quality made. Please take care of your wallet and keep it in your eye sight.
