Indian Food/Restaurant in Guangzhou
By WANHU | 4/10/2009 9:10:10 PM
I have been to Guangzhou only seven times, most of the time with some friends from Malaysia. These friends loved Indian, Middle East and Turkish foods very much. They are good hunters of food. From Turkish lokantasi, South Indian unavagam to restaurants and they never failed to savour the taste and jotted down inside their notebooks. We have been to Delhi Darbar Restaurant near Shangxia jiu, the foods are OK but the service is quite slow. Indian Chef near Beijing Lu is also OK and the service is better. One of the best Indian foods I have ever tasted is Uncle Café is situated at Henjing Commercial Centre, near Huanshi Zhong Lu, about 15 minutes walk from the GZ Train Station. It was introduced to me by Mr Amir, who was a Second Attaché Officer of the Consulate General of Malaysia Office.
Unfortunately Uncle Café is just a small restaurant that cannot accommodate larger group of diners, may 30 persons at one time. Try Beriani with chicken tikka masala, and crispy fried chicken and end up with crispy nan bread.

Muslim Food in Shenzhen
By WANHU | 8/14/2008 3:42:44 AM
There are abundant of Muslim food in Guangzhou, of various cuisines including Chinese but in Shenzhen although in every district has lamian shops that owned by Muslims, most restaurants are only in Luohu district. Through my observation, there are at least 3 good Muslim restaurants near Wenji Nan Lu (around Muslim bin guan) which are operated by Chinese. There are a few other smaller restaurants, one Indian restaurant which is not far from the railway station.
Most lamian stall operators are Muslims. This can be known and seen with white caps on their heads (for men and black headscarves worn by women). Seafood in China, unlike Thailand means stictly seafood but here also include meat and chicken. There are a few of these Muslim restaurants listed in zabihah.com. Those interested may browse www.zabihah.com.

Man, Woman, Drink, Eat in ambiguous Guangzhou
By PEPPERMINT | 3/11/2005 11:46:28 AM
For woman, shopping in Guangzhou is sure to satisfy you with Teem Plaza, Times Square, Guangzhou Merchandize Department Store, Xin Da Xin and multifarious boutiques. What I want to recommend today is Ba Bai Ban, a hairdressing salon. There are many branches and the one I went to is located at Hong Cheng Mall, East to Teem Plaza. It is on the first floor on the east side of the mall. The price is 2 times that of a barbershop but it is worthwhile.
Drink If u like Chinese tea, I would say Lanpu in Yue Xiu Park is a good place. You can choose anywhere in the park and have the whole tearoom to yourselves. The environment is fabulous, without noisy ads, karaok or bubbling crowds like most parks. The ticket to the Park is 8 yuan and it will be deducted from your tea cost. That is to say is you drink tea there, you dont have to pay for the entrance fee, wonderful, isnt it?
There are many cafes around Xiao Bei and Tianhe Nan. Also there is Star Bucks on Huanshi Dong Road. Cafes around Xiao Bei are worth trying since each of them has its selling point. UCB is where u can enjoy all: tea, coffee, meals-Chinese and Western.
Eat I have talked about Guangyuan Road. This time I will introduce Pao Ma Chang in Tian He District. Sichuan, Hunan, Shanxi dishes can all be found here as well as, of cos, Canton dishes like seafood. Liu Hua Zhou Cheng at Liuhua Park is also good, where u can taste all kinds of congee. The unlovely side is it is very noisy with the smell of seafood just under ur nostrils. Shangxijiu offers all original local snacks but if u r a gourmet, local food offered in surrounding cities like Shunde and Nanhai would sate u more. Generally speaking, food in Guagnzhou has been adjusted to cater to the popular taste.

Restaurants in Guangyuan Road
By PEPPERMINT | 3/11/2005 10:07:49 AM
Around Gurangyuan Road, there are many eateries. The city-known Greenery Cafe can be found here. Also A Li Lang Korean Restaurant is a better choice than Jin Da Zhuang on Huanshi Dong Road. The price is lower but the food is better since the rent on Huangshi Dong is much more expensive! And service and surroundings of A Li Lang are also better! Xiangxiazai offers Guilin cuisines. There are also many soup experts like Wu Ling Shan Zheng though the hygiene condition is not that ideal. Dont know why Macau Street is always so crowded. Actually the food is just so so and the price is a little bit higher. If food instead of other factors is your premium consideration, go to Guangyuan Road.

Haagen Dazs in Guangzhou
By PEPPERMINT | 12/15/2004 12:25:09 PM
You can also taste Haagen Dazs in Taojin Road behind Friendship Shop, opposite to Garden Hotel. Something interesting you will find this shop is more often than not, a whole family instead of a couple would come in. So dont expect to get lost in the romantic atmosphere. Children crying, parents scolding, grandparents laughing will impress you much more than the taste of the ice cream. Anyway, this is why I love this city soooooooooooooo much! Vigorous and novel, it will forever hold something unexpected.
