officail terracotta warrior store- xian da pottery
By STELZER5 | 8/29/2010 1:10:40 AM

We loved everything about our 12 day trip. We were especially excited about the 3/4 scale terracotta warrior we bought. We were told it was safe to make large purchases, as long as it was from an official store. Boy were we shocked to be hit with a $228 bill to get our warrior- when we had been assured that the price we paid in China included shipping! There was a note on the sales slip about paying fess in the US; the store manager in Xian told us that only applied if you didn't pick up your shipment from the warehouse in your town. Do not buy from the “official” store. Small items are much cheaper from venders at the museum. For large items, wait until you get home then order on the internet-much safer! We have since heard that this deceptive "shipping included" policy is not unusual in China. Be careful- only buy what you can bring home yourself. FYI each person (even your children) in your party can bring home $400 worth of goods, any extra is only 10% duty tax.

Shuttle bus
By JAZZ | 1/26/2006 5:57:02 PM
I got caught with the "shuttle bus" trick. A tour guide we had signed up with said the group of other tourists scheduled on our trip to the Burried Warriors had cancelled and that they would put us on another shuttle. It turned out we had to wait for about 2 1/2 hours for the shuttle to fill up.
As the bus filled up, some of the first passengers got off - they were planted there to make the bus appear full so more people would think "this shuttle will leave pretty soon."
Then it drove around with the ticket seller hanging out the window trying to drum up some last minute business!
The bus stopped at heaps of dumb places on the way there and the way back. A group of Chinese people got so fed up that they demanded their money back and got off. They caught a public bus.

Small Buses to Hua Shan
By CLARENCE | 12/22/2005 3:26:53 AM
These small buses will not go if they are not full. I waited from 8am in the morning till 11am and they still refused to go because it's winter and the people going to Hua Shan are few.
