Stanley Ho, the famous merchant in HK and Macau, recently spent 69,100,000 HKD to buy the Bronze Horse Head and sent it back to Beijing. The bronze horse head was one of the twelve national treasures in Old Summer Palace which were robbed by foreign invaders in Qing Dynasty.

Why should we Chinese pay so much money to purchase OUR national treasures?? Uncountable treasures were robbed by foreigner invaders in the past and we have to pay a large amount of money to get our treasures back!! How ridiculous!

It may have something to do with what the west calls "common law," BBQQ.

When something is stolen and the thief sells it to an unsuspecting buyer, the buyer is considered "a holder in due course." It has been many years since I studied about this, but I believe the "holder in due course" is compensated if a stolen item is recovered from them.

Hi, Griz. I'm pretty interested in the Common Law you mentioned above. Can you please tell me more about it? Thanks!
