Nanjing
May 2, 2008 - May 3, 2008

What a city!! Hat's off to Nanjing for a wonderful two days of exploring some of China's rich historical sites in glorious weather and beautiful surroundings. Visited the Ming Dynasty Tombs, Dr Sun Yat Sen's Mausoleum and other places at Zhongshan Mountain. Too short a trip but I'd love to return to Nanjing!

Huangshan
December 30, 2007 - January 1, 2008

Conceived of a last minute plan to see the sunset on the last day of the year and the sunrise on the first day of 2008... Where better than the most famous mountain in China, Yellow Mountain! Spent a very cold, spectacular and physically exhausting 2 nights and 3 days exploring...

Suzhou
November 17, 2007 - November 18, 2007

An all-too-short weekend in bustling Suzhou soaking up the picturesque old city. Enjoyed splendid autumnal scenery in the "Humble Administrator's Garden", wandered the tiny, perfectly designed "Master of Nets" garden and visited the only (original) city gate Panmen. Stumbled across an amazing street market too. I love Suzhou, it feels familiar, friendly and comfortable :)

Zhejiang
October 28, 2007 - October 28, 2007

Visited the tall, steep Daming Mountain that has grasslands on the top and 10,000 metres of caves to explore. Very atmospheric & dramatic scenery.

Zhejiang
October 3, 2007 - October 4, 2007

WUZHEN, ancient city on the edge of the Grand Canal...TOO many people (as per usual in these national holidays)...but still managed to escape the crowds in the evening and spend a magical hour floating through the canals of ancient China.

Zhejiang
June 8, 2007 - June 10, 2007

ANJI County - home of BAMBOO in China - a sparsely populated, mountainous region where everything is covered in the feathered green fronds of bamboo. There are many bamboo parks to visit, botanic gardens and waterfalls. Spent a hot, but happy 3 days exploring.

Zhejiang
May 1, 2007 - May 4, 2007

The Mad May Holidays again and I spent 4 days travelling in Zhejiang Province. I visited the strange town of Yiwu - home of one of the world's largest commodity markets - and little else. Spent 4 hours queuing to enter Double Dragon Cave by a boat and wandered around a replica Forbidden City at Hengdian Film Studios. HOT weather and about a million people seemed to accompany me...

Hangzhou
April 13, 2007 - April 14, 2007

I spent a day exploring the fabulous LongJing Tea Village near West Lake, Hangzhou.

Hangzhou
March 23, 2007 - March 24, 2007

West Lake in the Spring really is beautiful, especially the gardens which had my mouth watering with their brisk greens and cherry blossoms. Also had my first Indian curry in a very long time........yummmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Shandong
January 27, 2007 - January 31, 2007

Spent a few days wandering around the capital of Shandong Province, Jinan. A pretty nice city, the streets lined with very old trees and some quaint backstreets worth exploring. Visited Qianfoshan (1000 Buddha Mountain) and Daming Lake.
