We arrived in Shanghai in mid afternoon on 8th Sept 2012. We took a taxi from Pudong International Airport to Peoples Square, the taxi was held up in places by busy traffic, and the taxi receipt showed the ride took approximately 45 mins. The taxi fare was 162 yuan. the taxi fare receipt showed we had travelled 46.1km. We cannot remember the colour of this taxi, but it was NOT dark blue.
On leaving Shanghai at about 11am in light traffic on 17th Sept 2012, we again took a taxi from Peoples Square to Pudong international airport. The taxi had a clear run to the airport and the taxi fare receipt showed the ride took approximately 48mins. The taxi fare was 201 yuan, the taxi receipt showed we had travelled 56.9km. The taxi was from the dark blue company.
How can the fares be so different between the two fixed points?
Of course we did not expect the fares to be exactly the same but a difference of 10km and 39 yuan more?
The dark blue taxi obviously took us on a longer route (what I would refer to as a tour of Shanghai route) before dropping us off at the airport.
Beware of dark blue taxis - and avoid using them but if you have no choice, then find out what the fare should be before you ride.
Dark blue taxi - you bring shame to Shanghai taxis!!!
