Stranded by a sleeper bus breakdown, my nightmare continued another day with 19 hours overnight on a train with no air conditioning. I spent a very relaxing month here with friends.

Jiujiang on the Yangtze River is the gateway to Lushan, a luxurient green summer retreat from the sweltering heat of the Yangtze plains below. Some major post war decisions were made here by China's new leaders
Wuhan

A pleasant four hour air conditioned bus journey across the Yangtze River flood plains brought me to sizzling Wuhan, one of China's four 'Ovens'. I desperately needed some sleep and to stay cool.
Yichang

My boat docked very early in the morning and I was met and transferred to a hotel for a few hours sleep before catching an early bus to Wuhan.
