I have been living here now for alomst a month and have explored the island looking for beaches. I have to say that after growing up in southern California, I have been spoiled and my expectation for beaches is high. The beaches here are mainly on the eastern side of the island and most only have a little beach area. The beaches close to the village of Huangcuo are the least crowded. The water is clean for the most part and swimable, although the water temp is a little cold. There are also some beaches on Gulangyu Island, but they are over-crowded with tourists and if you are a foreigner you will not feel comfortable trying to catch a tan, unless you like your photo taken hundred of times. There is a kiteboarding and paddle board club here. Overall, I have to say that the beaches here are some of the best in China.
Welcome to Xiamen, glad to to show you around the beaches here.
