On Jan. 3 my daughter travelled back to Bangkok by way of Pittsburgh, JFK, then China Airlines to Shanghai, then Bangkok.  Due to weather she had to switch airlines to JFK, then there was a 3 hour delay before leaving for Shanghai.  At Shanghai she was directed to get her checked bags, which she never did find.  The airport staff spoke very little English, she was not offered an inerpreter, and she was very confused as to what was expected of her.  She said the person at the baggage claim did not even ask for a description of her bags (there were pictures she could have pointed to) and when she got to Bangkok the person there said her bags were described as black, which is totally inacurate.  She noticed that passengers from her flight were boarding a bus and she was motioned to do so but still not knowing what was going on, that they were going to a hotel.  At the hotel the clerk spoke very little English and it was indicated she would have to pay for a room for herself.  Thankfully, a person behind her spoke both Chinese and American and was able to help her  (Thank you God for this Angel).  Thankfully, she is safely back to Bangkok but still without luggage. The staff at Bangkok was very helpful and patient.   Her experience at Shanghai was very traumatic.  Hopefully we will never have to use that airport again.
