sweet sunset at the Béthanie, through a gothic arch
Béthanie (139 Pokfulam Road) and Nazareth (now University Hall) are 2 of Hong Kong’s best kept secrets. Headquarters of French Missionary's efforts in China from 1875, Béthanie a sanatorium, Nazareth a printing house, in French Gothic style architecture, on a hilltop of dairy pastures. Fathers travelled to remotest areas and one of their achievements was their printing presses in Asian languages in Nazareth. A French father also found there the original Bauhinia tree from which HK's national flower was derived.
