Sky Burial on the rocks behind Sera
In the typical Tibetan Sky Burial people were brought to these rocks and were cut into pieces. The meat gets completely scraped off the bones. They cut and squeeze it into very small pieces, mix it with barley......so that the vultures can eat it! It is meant as the last sacrifice of a human being - a way of giving back what he/she took from nature during all her/his lifetime.
- another interesting thing: Can you see the bended mirror bundling the lightrays to cook the water in the teapot on top of it in front of the stairs? (sorry small pic)

Aya, Peacock, maybe you ment cutting off the scalp (skin on the scull), Insians were famous for. But the funny thing is that this actually was a sick invention of the white settlers in America. There was a time when peopel received a reward for shooting Indians. Because they shot so many, they just took the scalp to prove the number shot so they could get the money. The Indians adopted this sick idea as a revenge to the settlers and soldiers - but today, because of all the Hollywood movies, people only think of Indians cutting the scalp.... |

Oh, it is a long time ago I saw the movie of the last Mohican. But I think Indians in North America didnt cut the dead into pieces, but some put the bodies on high wooden biers where finally birds would have a snack, too;-) |

The way that Tibetans bury their people you mentioned is very like the way metioned in a novel The Last Mohicans. I am not very sure about the name of the novel. :) |
