>>CANADAGUY, you mean that Federer do not want Sampras to lose face in front of millions of fans? I guess that Federer will do it as you say. << That's it exactly. It will all depend on how gracious Federer is, or even what they may have planned ahead of the match. It's not unusual to have a basic script to work by. 'Let's throw in some of these and some of those. I'll give you the second set but you'll have to earn the third on your own!' >>Sampras' physical condition is his biggest disadvantage. Just imagine: if they had the same physical conditions, who was stronger, Federer or Sampras?<< Ah that's the million dollar question that everyone is debating. Personally I would give the edge to Federer. The one time they played together professionally in 2001 at Wimbledon, Federer won in five sets. He was still very young (20) and hadn't begun to assert himself on the tour yet. Sampras was close to retirement (30) but still had another slam in him (U.S. Open 2002). So even though there was the same 10 year age difference between them then, it was spread out more fairly than now. Federer was years away from his peak form and Sampras was just a few years after his peak form. The interesting story will be told in the coming years if/when Federer surpasses Sampras in total slams.
