It was clearly not a figment of McCarthy’s imagination.
Hollywood is and was a place of Left leaning people. Jane Fonda comes to mind. She should have been sent to jail IMO.
Berlin was situated in a part of Germany controlled by the USSR with access by road. The USSR cut this access forcing the Allies to supply the part of Berlin controlled by them by air. This blockade went on for six months until they realized that the West would not hand over their part of Berlin.
Russia did not return to it’s borders after the War but forced it’s version of communism on half of Europe. Effectively creating one giant Gulag. They stayed for 50 years. Some of these countries did try to regain their freedom. These attempts were brutally suppressed.
People joke now about the “Reds under the bed” phrase .No, not under the bed but in it.

I have no problem with people holding different political views to my own. Many do.
What I don’t like is someone holding a gun to my head.
