The human capacity for acquiring knowledge is what takes us forward.... but humanity itself chooses how to use that knowledge... we can look for a cure for cancer and we can create atomic weapons....Better off.... ?  Usually it refers to financial security... Better off also aligns itself with convenience, we can take a car instead of walking, a washing machine instead of our hands etc. Healthcare, social security, life expectancy are all 'better' in general.If only we had a time machine...[/quote]
