Either you have not explained well or not reasonable enough. You mentioned "commercialism" and I associate it with "touristy" which is close and related. You should know that a tourism place is only touristy and commercialised if people are willing to visit it; and I emphasized that if anyone  is to be blame,. you are one of the main culprit beacuse you are also promoting tourism here.
You mentioned authoriieses and developers are misguided, and all they want to make is fast buck, who isn't in China ? Everyone is doing things for personal reasons, What's wrong anyway ? If a place is not well developed, how could it attract tourists ? Mountains need roads, public toilets and cable cars to bring in tourists. Tourists need to eat, drink , sleep and be entertained too, so that brought in restaurants, sellers, clubs, hotels, etc. So what's the "long term consequences that you thibnk is bad" ? As I mentioned, China either have it like Bhutan or catch up with developments, there is NO in between.
What's wrong ? If you think the development are NOT right, give SPECIFIC suggestions, don't give a general statement like "if you cannot understand, forget it" type of "accusations". Others certainly understand, I think it is you who CHOOSE not to understand.

BTW, when ROBERT refer to places not "real" he is refering to mostly man-made and developed tourists attractions rather than natural ones. Just like Singapore.[/quote]
