In defence of this is the cultural reality that we are bombarded with advertising and general media stories which have created many very high expectations.  Expectations about possessions, homes, and sex...yes sex is the major topic in most womens magazines for example.  Life has become dominated by sex (I am not commenting on whether this is good or bad) - that is a reality.  So there is a greater probablity that we are dissatisfied.  So check first.

What does this mean for societies like China, and most Asian countries?  Sure, strive to maintain your existing customs and morals, but it seems to me that just as you will have macDonalds and KFC, you will eventually copy western culture and morals in this area, too.  (Maybe the closed China policy that has occurred more than once in China's history had a valid point!)
