Hi there, my situation is a little complicated, but I will explain it as simply as I can. I was born in New Zealand, but living in Australia and working also. I wish to conduct TESOL at a later date in China to get experience in teaching, as I wish to make teaching a career. However approximately 3 years ago I was convicted for assaulting a child (man). Ok so b4 you all jump on the bandwagon read the following. I can provide more details, but this is the basic info. Under the anti smacking law I was convicted. Sure I smacked my daughter who was 3 at the time. About 4-5 times if I remember right, and yes they were hard. Then my mum arrived about 5-10 minutes later asking about the red marks on her bottom, to which I explained that I had disciplined her. Then mum went silent and went home after a few minutes. About 3 hours later as the girls were in bed the police arrived along with mum, and I was arrested. Fast forward 3 months and I finished my sentence. The way I see it is I disciplined my kids, and far less so than my mum used to do to me. the belt the shoe whatever she could get her hands on. I remember her breaking a wooden spoon on my butt, yet I'm the abuser and she called the cops on me. That is the only offence I have been convicted for in my life, and the third time I have ended up at the cop station. Its is my first and only offence. Now you may find it ironic how I wish to teach, but its very rewarding and appealing to me, and I felt drawn to teaching during the time I was undergoing a parent course imposed on me by the courts. I could go on about my reasons for wanting to be a teacher but that is beside the question. So my questions are as follows. In 2 years time at least, after I am qualified in TESOL and have some experience from private tutoring online, I wish to travel to china to see China and experience the lifestyle in a positive way, influenced by the teaching I wish to do. If I apply for a Z visa, will it be denied solely for the conviction type?, and will any school be willing to give me a chance, knowing I have a criminal record? Will teaching adults at a university be an exemption since its adults not kids? What about high school? Any chance there, or are they still classed as children, even though they are in their teen years?
