Ah, it's nice to find that I am not alone in my views... I believe it is courtesy to provide as much information as possible. I guess part of the answer is that we only help people who help themseleves... no info, no help!

Lemoncactus: are you off the fence yet? Have the recent arguments influenced you at all?

My profile has my picture, my gender, the city, state and country where I live. I'd post my age too. IMO, none of that qualifies as risky information. However, I would never post my private email address, telephone number or IM ID, but that is not asked for by the sign-up form. I don't have a problem with posting my secondary email address, but it wasn't asked for.......

This is supposed to be a community. It is nice to know your neighbors.

I am resurrecting this thread, which I missed while I was away.

This is an issue I have raised in previous posts, some time back.

I have to agree with the view/position of Paul, Conny, and Ellyse, in this regard.

I understand why some may not want to post a photo….that is OK !! But at least post an Avatar, to make your postings readily recognizable and to add interest and color to what you post.

I understand why some may not want to post a full real name….that is OK !!

I think it is important to post if you are male or female….this makes it better to understand your perspective on certain issues and you as a member.

Moreover, I think it is essential to post your location !!! At least a country, if not also a region or city within that country. How can you expect other members to give the time and effort to answer a question, if we do not know where you are on this planet. Questions on things like Visas, airline travel, etc, etc, can only be answered in an intelligent manner if we first know where you are located.

This is all very simple and has nothing to do with a court room interrogation or the revelation of any sensitive personal information, as to who you are as an individual or where you are specifically located. It is only common courtesy and positive forum decorum !!
