GUEST18173	Hi, I think you need to sort out this gift to her parents. My son a UK citizen married a Chinese girl last year after she pursued him and he eventually decided to settle down and married her in China. Later he sent all the paperwork needed and financial statements etc and she arrived in the UK within 6mths. At first on arriving she insisted on having her name added on to his account.She made him give her money(he gave £2000 and monthly £500) on thinking she needs it to run the house and for her needs.She does have funds in China but does not want to bring it to UK. Later she was adamant on starting a family and buying a house which we were willing to finance.So they have been house hunting for a few months. She turned out to be very argumentative and wanting her ideas complied with or not at all even though she is new to UK and he knows about living her being a citizen. Now all I hear is raised voices or fights whenever they visit me. My son is fed up since she is insisting that they visit her hometown and meet up with all her family and relatives(which means giving money in red envelopes).At the wedding & reception which we paid for,all the red envelopes were taken away by her family. Any number of times my son has said theirs is a love marriage and he is not keen even for his family to be around and likes his privacy with his wife. By the way they have always been living by themselves and now are going through a bad patch. According to my son when he met a UK businessman in Beijing; he told him that all deals with the Chinese are done on their terms and no room for compromise.He now feels that is what is happening in his marriage.She asked for driving lessons for £600 and he paid for it.He asked her to join English classes even though they wanted to charge her £15 per hour; and he wanted her to do it. She chats on Skype with her chinese pals, and not really being committed to living in the UK since she wil need to pass her test next year. She fights a lot at home and always argues but outside she is all obliging and submissive.So now the marriage is on rocky grounds and I wish and pray commonsense will prevail and somehow things will work out between them. So my advise to anyone marrying a chinese is to be careful since they are very set in their ways and want to keep bringing their parents and family into the picture all the time in the marriage as if it is an arranged marriage.

We met in England as her sister lives next door but one to me luckily. Someone says i have to be in China BEFORE the marriage, tell the British Embassy who then post my intention for a further 21 days before we can marry. Does anyone know if this is correct? Regards
