GUEST10175 This will be my first time traveling outside the US to Nigeria. Looking it up on the internet most sites say that i would need a Visa to travel. I recently was thinking that i have a felony for fraud from 1996. Does anyone know if i will be ok to apply or should i try to get my record sealed before? I'm not sure of the process

GUEST10475 So after many years now i have to get a criminal background check to keep working in china on a Z visa. If you apply for a regular tourist visa just tick 'no'. The chinese government has no way to check with the US / UK etc, they have no treaties in place. But if you have to provide a check from the home country it must be official, and stamped by the chinese embassy there......

From The UK consulate

Criminal Record Checks (usually required to be no older than 6 months before application)
China’s visa regulations state that proof of no criminal record is required for foreign nationals applying for a work or resident permit. To obtain a criminal record check for use in China, covering time spent in the UK you can:
• contact the UK police authorities nearest to where you lived at the time*
• seek records via the Association of Chief Police Officers Criminal Records Office(ACRO)
• if you work or are seeking to work with children, you can also apply via ACRO for anInternational Child Protection Certificate (ICPC). The ICPC is a police check available to overseas schools and organisations with no formal link to the UK, who are recruiting British nationals (or any national who has spent time living in the UK) to work with children; note that you, not your employer, must apply for an ICPC - employers can ask you to provide an ICPC or can contact the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
• check the information from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS - formerly the Criminal Records Bureau) to see if a DBS check is suitable for you or your employer’s requirements guide: Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks

GUEST44230 any one can explain what I should do, to get a china visa with an arrest without a complaint, or even being arraigned. The arrest was in 2013.

I think other people made it clear in this post. You can choose to tell the truth in your application form and then let the consular officers to decide. Or you can tell "No" in the form to make a lie. Some people who told the truth or told lies in the application finally applied successfully.

GUEST87145 Just for the record, Taiwan does have access to the criminal database in the United States. A crime committed over 30 years ago will in fact show up when you attempt to visit Taipai.

GUEST19132 Had a friend apply to get Chinese Business Visa for work. He used a third party agency. He actually emailed the agency to ask questions about what to submit with his application, regarding his criminal record.
They gave him the advice that if he answered yes to the question about criminal record he may get denied. They hinted that the Chinese consulates/ embassy don't do a background check for a business Visa and they have seen people get a Visa application denied for admitting to a misdemeanor DWI and even dismissed misdemeanor charges.
So even though people on this thread are stating they got their Visa approved with all sorts of things on their criminal record,...I think the advice of a legitimate company that processes these applications for people should be taken seriously...when they say they see many denials for minor offenses.

GUEST13119 Check no. either way you run the risk of being denied. get there and don't be a screw up. My wife is from china. I have 32 misdemeanor convictions 8 felony arrests and 2 felony convictions including prison time. she and I both know there will come a day when I will not be able to go. I will cross that bridge when it gets here. Also I know a man in Beijing that is married to a Chinese woman. he was teaching English before all the new laws were put into place during the Olympic games in Beijing. They denied his z visa due to criminal background . They do allow him to stay just not work. When you think of all the people applying for Chinese visa's in one day, it would be damn near impossible to check every single person applying. I know tons of people in china with felonies that lied. certain countries do have access. personally I have been to japan but a visa is not required for me as I am an American citizen. Thailand and Taiwan definitely have access to these records. Just be cool make a choice and hope for the best.
