Official Documents

Remember that all offical documents have to be written in black ink. This requirement is because they are processed / scanned by computer through photocopying.

Pedestrian Crossings
KEVINWARDCFC | -General- | 6/15/2006 4:44:38 AM

Normally, when the 'little green man' is flashing at pedestrian crossings, it is safe to cross the road. But in parts of China this is not the case. Even when it is green for pedestrians, traffic turning from the right may pose a problem, because it also has green signal. Better to be alert, even on green.

Whopping Entry Fee
KEVINWARDCFC | Jiujiang | 6/14/2006 11:17:39 AM

Not far from Jiujiang there is a quaint resort called Kuling [Giuling] in the Lu Shan mountains. It was the summer get-away for people as far away as Wuhan in the last century. It still is a lovely summer resort. But they charge you an exorbitant 135 Yuan to enter. I feel this is out of all proportion to what is on offer inside.

Electrical Appliances
KEVINWARDCFC | -General- | 4/26/2006 10:10:27 AM

Those who arrive in China from other countries often find to their dismay that their electrical appliances cannot be connected because of different plug systems. It is important to have a traveller's multi-plug in one's kit. It is also important to know the voltage compared with one's own country.

Zhuhai
KEVINWARDCFC | -General- | 4/24/2006 3:31:16 AM

When one enters Mainland China via Zhuhai, there is a huge underground market right there as one exits from passport/visa formalities. There is an endless array of curio shops, but not all items on display are genuine. I found the paper-cuttings and wall-hangings particularly splendid. One has to bargain because it is a very touristy area. Be sure to shop around and compare prices. And if you are hungry, there are plenty of food stalls selling snacks and full meals. Prices are reasonable.
