Zumiao-Shengyu-Foshan Ancestral Temple
A top scenic spot in Foshan is Foshan Ancestral Temple, inside Foshan Museum located at No. 21 Zumiao Road Changcheng District. Originally built during reign of Emperor Yuanfeng (1078-1085), this temple was dedicated to the northern god, Beidi, alleged to have powers over the waters in Guangdong.
Foshan was one of the four famous Chinese towns during the Ming and Qing dynasties well known for its commerce, ceramic industry, and handicrafts. Foshan Ancestral Temple is rich with stone, brick, and wood carvings, iron and copper castings, pottery, clay and lime sculptures, and gold lacquer.
