I think Suzhou is a very secure city for foreigners. Otherwise, so many MNC will not settle in Suzhou and so many foreigners will not live in Suzhou.

I've been reading about pollution and algae problems in China. does this affect life in Suzhou? Is the air quality ok, or do you recommend taking special precautions???
Regarding algae problems, Suzhou government has taken measures to avoid the problem. Don't worry about it.

Are there any areas around Suzhou/industrial park that one should avoid???
Maybe the villa that locals around Tai lake or Jinji lake is a good option for you.
