Reading your input, I just happen to speculate about the adults around the fat kids.
most fat kids are surround by fat people as close family, more over you stated that as a young man you used to do al kind of sports and so you avoided been fat.
However, now day’s reality is that you are Quote, (I'm overweight myself).
My question is how can we help the children with obesities and make them understand, that we need to be healthy and teach them so, if the adults are fat. 
So you have a 300 pounds teacher, teaching eating habits to children, children are very smart, and by not means stupid.
As I read here on this very forum many times over, a lot of blame the others but me individuals, preach how much they dislike the presence of KFC or McDonalds in China, “because of the health treat that these fast food outlets represent to people”.
In other words, they are the warriors that pretend to rescue China from the enemy, (FAT).
I do not think that nor are KFC or McDonalds bad, what is bad, is the lack of self-control on the adult population of the west mainly.
Obesity is the byproduct of unrestrained behavior in the adult population.
As Chinese society is getting wealthier, they will follow the western behavior, of excesses too.
Not because the western behavior is always necessarily, better.
But because it is the one different option to the old Chinese socialistic doctrine of austerity and self restrain; self implemented by the limited availability of goods.
To finish my speculative entry, I suggest, that as long as we have fat adults, there will always sadly be fat children, “healthy looking” fat sick children.
