This phenomenon of eating meals in a rush and at fast food outlets is, of course, not exclusive to China !! Today, in many countries of the world, most notably in America, people are eating more and more fast food, and/or food that is pre-packaged in a way to conveniently prepare more quickly/easily.My observation in China has been, that people in general (both at home and in traditional restaurants) are eating much healthier than most in the USA. The consumption of fresh vegetables is much higher, and also I see more of the less fattening fish and chicken being consumed as compared to a higher intake of beef, here in America. Many of the Chinese families I know, still prepare most meals at home, and then only succumb to the wishes of the children on the weekend, to eat (at least) one meal at McDonald’s, KFC or Pizza Hut -- LOL.I think Dreamcatcher is quite correct though, as the direction in most cultures today is toward the increased consumption of fast food and or quickly prepared meals, vs. the more traditional and more labor intensive methods, which taste better, are much healthier, and sooth the Soul so much more !!I think that for those of us who 'love' to cook at home and create dishes from scratch, it is easier to keep these things in better balance/perspective. I cannot wait to return to China next month, and make many visits to my favorite traditional Chinese restaurants !!! YUM !!! :) :)
