Whoever said this is definitely not native chinese, or at least out of touch with reality about the notion held by most chinese in Northern China. In my first ever visit to China and years that followed, I could not understand why was there so much discrimination against the bloody Shanghainese, and actually I have defended the shanghainese - not after I visited SH myself. What a filthy place is probably all that I would say about Shanghai. Now I totally understand why shanghainese are received (quite sensibly) as excessively materialistic, rude (can not be more proportionate, simply look at the volume at which people there speak), perculiar customs (e,g. Shopping in top end department stores in Pajama. Yes, you heard me, a sight will not be seen in any other chinese cities), and their love affair with gossiping behind people. I can not even recall for how many times had people insanely shouted at me when I had trouble heavy accented chinese.

Do not ever want to be there again, my life is too short and precious for that sort of spiritual slum, and I have instructed my HR Manager never consider another candidate with Shanghainese origin, before it gets too late for me to stop their gang formation in my company. Hell
