Perhaps it is you who should "redefine" the word. Someone who is "doing a research" would not qualify in my normal acceptance of the word student. I would think of him more as a....researcher?  There is no doubt the learning process continues from cradle to grave as you say. However not all of us have the luxury of being able to fund a structured or formal education normally required by "students" in what are regarded as income earning years. To be a student at 31 while advertising for a "meaningful friendship then relationship" may well mean she is an independently wealthy, self funded student who is earnestly seeking her soul mate. However this line smacks of somehing entirely different... "welcome age gap ". Call me a cynic...but I have suspicions.
