Once you are in china it will be easier.  you can find people to help you, get advice, etc.  In reality criminal records are not a big deal for china.  police certificates can easily be forged, connections can be made to override the rules.  simply put, as long as you behave in China, there should be no problems.
Remember,  your past personal life is NO ONE'S business but your own.
