Hello everyone. I haven't been able to get on the Net for a while but now I can it's time to rejoin the discussion. I still take issue with much of what our friend Pinetree says. Mostly because he sees things in black and white. Certainly some expats come to Chine for dubious reasons, but I think they are the minority. Most come for the reasons already discussed, interest in China or career, not because the girls are 'easy'. If you want to find a bride you don't come to China to work, you use the agencies where the girls declare themselves. Of ourse those who come to work might get a girlfriend (or more, over time) in China, but in most cases it is an equal relationship, the girls are aware of what they are doing. MOST Chinese girls do NOT want a western boyfrined or husband, MOST do not want to live overseas. I had other friends who visited the clubs and generally slept around, but surely the girls who visit the clubs are also 'on the make'... it isn't only men who want a good time.As I have said in a previopus thread, those who criticise the male expats need to consider the behaviour of Chinese married men. One of my Chinese male colleagues estimated that (in his town) 90% of married profeesiional men visit brothels on a regular basis. I find this appalling, but of course I 'don't understand Chinese culture'!!!On the more boring subject of the hiring of teachers, I remember agreeing with Pinetree (YES!) in one of my first posts here, that a policy change is needed. Employment should be skill based rather than based on country of origin. There are many 'English' speakers with accents and styles that are very difficult to understand, and there are some 'Chinese' who have excellent English. Yes, there are many policy changes that could be made in China! But give the country a chance... there have already been so many reforms... I am amazed how much has been achieved in such a short time. As a final note, foreign teachers are often hired for their knowledge of western countries and culture, for having alternative teaching styles, or simply because that is what the Chinese parents want and are prepared to pay for!
