I didn't know much about China until a few years ago. But I got to meet many Chinese during my career, and they struck me as always being nice people. But I realized that, though we hear about China all the time in the news nowadays, I knew nothing of its history and culture. How could that be? It seems that we only learn history from our Westerner point of view.

So I started to read. Chinese history, Chinese literature, Chinese culture. I realized how much we owe to the Chinese people. And how much harm was brought to China by Westerners, when China was in a vulnerable state. Now the Chinese people are getting back on their feet again, after 150 years of struggle and misery. Good for them!

Next year, if all goes well, I will finally visit China. I have no doubt that I will find the same kindness there that I found in all the Chinese that I have met here.
