I just got my I-129F accepted and sent to Vermont for processing. So I can't tell you much about Guangzhou (yet). I have read many websites on this visa and marrying a Chinese girl thing. This is the first one I have seen that made any comments about the length of time of knowing or number of times of visiting the girl. I can tell you that legally you only have to meet once, and there are exceptions to that. Of course that is easy for me to say as I am living in China and I have dated my girlfriend now for 14 months. I am currently trying to extend my visa so I can stay until she gets her visa. Legally there is no reason to deny her the visa, there is nothing in her or my past that would preclude it. There is also an appeal process, their website states that they have to give a reason if the visa is denied. However, they are looking for a bona fide relationship. As far as filling out the paperwork, first I am NOT going to tell anyone not to get a lawyer. However comma, as one commenter stated - follow the instructions. I did all the paperwork myself and it was accepted the first time. Follow the instructions, and if all else fails - follow the instructions. The number one reason for holdups of the process. Main reasons they are not accepted the first time, number one reason is not following instructions, using outdated forms, not sending in the right amount of money, not signing the form, and not sending everything asked for. Oh yeah, and not following the instructions. :) I actually sent in half of the paperwork she is supposed to send in, they didn't complain and I sort of heard that it goes faster at Guangzhou. Some girls get worried when their interviews are real short, the website says that is because Guangzhou already did all their homework and didn't need a long interview. I agree with the be patient with her comments, by all means be patient with her. After 14 months in China and dating my girlfriend how much do I understand Chinese culture - zero. Note to GUESTSAZZZ, you got me beat, I'm 68, my fiancee is 23.
