Maybe she just freaked out about the whole thing perhaps?
she told her family she doesn't want to work anymore. this might be her Cousins words however.
 She would not have to work. I would support a new career for her if it was what she wanted. I would have married her immediately if she would have me. A man of my word, I wait for her till July. Then I will have to Move on.
