This is a great web site, just found it. I got married last Nov. in Chengdu and have been back once more. I got a notice on Aug 16 that I was approved and the notice was Valid from 8/16/2007 to 12/15/2007. On Sept. 19 I got a letter saying within a week they would send the petition to Guangzhou so my wife could get her paperwork and then the interview. Today is Oct 13 and she has received nothing yet. My question is can the process be completed by 12/15/2007 when the approval expires? It doesn't seem like enough time the way things work so slowly. Thanks for any information. On another note, some here are dead on about the different cultures and language difference. My wife knew some English and is taking classes and I am learning Chinese. We talk and see each other morning and night everyday for 2+ hours with web cams(clearer then telephones and can react to what the other say with body language + free). My wife has taught me more patients then I thought I would ever have. Sometimes you can get hung up on trying to explain what you mean so that one sentence can take 20 minutes for the meaning to be gotten. If you can lean this, it can be a truly great love. If you are inpatient, then it would be very hard. My wife fills in the gaps where I am weak, she is strong. One more thing, the best help for you and your wife is to find a Chinese Church to go to. Before we were married I started attending one and it is great. There are many mixed couples and many Chinese couples. They enjoy seeing other Chinese people and there are classes that teach both English and Chinese during the week so you wife can learn how to speak English better and you can learn how to speak Chinese. These are also all people who had to get a Visa too.
